Did you know...

Moses with the Ten Commandments on the Supreme Court BuildingDid you know... As you walk up the steps to the Capitol Building which houses the Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view? It is Moses and the Ten Commandments!

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door. As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall right above where the Supreme Court judges sit a display of the Ten Commandments!

There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington, D.C.

James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement... "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country, said ... "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians; not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher ... whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.

Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.

Thomas Jefferson worried about that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law...an oligarchy...the rule of few over many.

The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said: "Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 200 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?

Dear Sir:

The following piece, entitled "Did You Know" posted on your web site, contains numerous bogus claims:

1)You probably will not see Moses as you walk up the steps to the Supreme Court Building because Moses is on the back side of the building where there is no public entrance. Moses is depicted, with Solon and Confucius, as the focus of the sculptural group depicted on what is know as the "East Pediment" on the rear of the building. According to the designer of the artwork, Moses, Solon and Confucius represent the three great eastern civilizations that influenced our law. Since there is no public entrance on the east side of the building, a person walking up the stairs to the Supreme Court Building would probably be on the west side of the building where the main entrance is located.
2)The symbolic representation of the ten commandments (Tablets with the Roman Numerals I tru X)on the lower panel of the oak doors to the courtroom is on the "inside" of the doors and cannot be see when entering the courtroom. If the doors were closed, you could see the symbolic representation as you left the courtroom.
3)On the wall high above the seats where the justices sit is a bronze frieze that includes a symbolic representation of the Bill of Rights that the piece, and others, falsely claims is the Ten Commandments.
4)The Madison quotation is bogus. It does not appear in any of Madison’s writings or speeches. The source of this quote appears to be a book published in the 1950’s which contained a bogus citation. David Barton, in one of his "carefully researched" books about the founding fathers, used the quotation without "carefully resarch" and has admitted that the quote is not authentic.
5)The Patrick Henry quotation is also bogus. It is not found in any of his writtings

You can find out about the artwork on the Supreme Court Building at the Court’s Official Web site. You can confirm the quotes on one of the reputable historical study sites provided by the University of Virginia.

Sincerely,

Fred Slice
