"I am a small time photographer (I say small time because it's not my main source of income). My reason for this email to you is to hope you will publish some of my photos in your magazine. I followed the egghead tutorial from your mag and I personally feel that the results turned out quite well. If anyone would like to see any more of my photos, I have galleries at www.photography-roy.co.uk".

Adrian Lamo sounded a little better today. Once again, he called in to the Tech TV show 'The Screen Savers' to talk to co-host Leo Laporte.
When asked where he was, Adrian responded " I am still in a safe place... It's amazing what variety of safe places there are but I will not be here for long. I have made arrangements that will hopefully work out to surrender myself to the Federal authorities tomorrow morning."
Laporte asked Adrian if he felt better about turning himself in, as the FBI on Friday afternoon wouldn't specify what the exact charges were.
"They've given me enough information that I don't think they are doing anything that's agregiously unreasonable," Adrian responded. "And they've given me enough (information) that I feel comfortable going in to answer for the things that I always knew could have consequences."
Laporte then asked him how reasonable.
"It's stuff that I feel is reasonable. It's not anything that I think is really like massive prosecutorial misconduct. I... I'm comfortable going in to face these charges." Said Adrian.
Leo asked Adrian how he spent this past weekend on the run from the FBI.
"I really spent this weekend appreciating a lot of things about the world around me and really existing on a sort of state of surreality. It's one thing to read about this sort of thing on the news or see it happen to other people and it's another thing to wake up in the morning in a nice warm, cozy bed from some dream and all of a sudden realize that it's real... You've woken up and you're still wanted by the FBI."
Leo asked him how he's been treated on message boards and such.
"There's been a huge amount of support from well-wishers," replied Adrian. "And I really can't thank all of them enough. They've made what would otherwise have been a more difficult experience significantly more bearable."
"I've spent this weekend surrounded by friends and received messages from supporters and it's been, um... This word is really overused, but it's been touching. A lot of people expressed concern for my safety and said that the best thing was to turn myself in. That was always my plan. There was some perception that there was some sort of deal earlier that I broke to turn myself in earlier. No such deal ever existed. I don't know where that came from. This is the first time today that I have talked directly to the Federal prosecutor in my case and this is the first time that we've come to any sort of an agreement and I intend to stick by that agreement."
"And will you be turning yourself in tomorrow?" Inquired Laporte.
"Indeed." Replied Adrian. "Bright and early... Significantly earlier than I am used to waking up."
"Was anyone instrumental in helping you make that decision?" Asked Laporte.
"Kevin's (Mitnick) story was one of the things that motivated me. Kevin's wonderful girlfriend Darcy (Wood, a former Tech TV personality) posted a message on her blog and she sent me an email, essentially to the effect of encouraging me to turn myself in but also confirm a number of other aspects of the situation and it gave me a great deal to think about and I... It was both nice and it helped re-assure me that I was doing the right thing by going in."
Lamo, if he follows though on his word, is scheduled to turn himself in to Federal authorities at the Sacramento Federal Courthouse early Tuesday morning.
We wish him the best.

There's a lot to be said about ShreveNet as a local ISP, and one that has garnered National awards and attention. ShreveNet's history is unique, in that it was started in late 1996 primarily as a Web Design / Web Hosting company by Allen Marsalis and Kevin Heflin on a T1 in downtown Shreveport, La. Later a rack of modems was added and they began providing dial-up Internet access and still later bought out another small ISP, Prysm Technologies. Since then ShreveNet has added nearly 30,000 customers and a full compliment of Internet based services.
Allen Marsalis is now President and CEO of ShreveNet, Inc., and is hard to pin down to the office. He's usually out building the business, or another wireless tower, or creating new ways to bring the latest technology to his customers. Intense, energetic, and sees right to the heart and future of where the Internet will be 10 years from now... phenomenal, extraordinary, and to get to the real point of this piece, he has built something quite unique in any business today. What makes ShreveNet unique is it's staff and their dedication to excellence.
The office atmosphere is relaxed, sometimes intense, but all aspects of ShreveNet's business success is reflected in the attitude, dedication, and caring of each individual, professionals in all their respective talents, and all united in ShreveNet's effort to provide the best possible service and technical support to the end user.
OK... I need to say this now. This is not a case of Corporate Butt-Kissing, but a heart full of pride and gratitude for being a part of the ShreveNet family. I'll not name any names other than the founders, but rest assured our customers know us all. The family atmosphere inspires Trust, which begets Loyalty, and I see that between the staff and from our customers. Professionalism requires something extra, Integrity helps us to be who we are, accepted by each other, encouraging Team Focus, and communication between the various departments whose talents need to overlap, and where egos need to be left at home.
It's truly amazing to get calls related to problems spurred by other, unnamed ISP's, whether national or local, where the user knows they can get a real human voice on the other end of the phone, whether they are ShreveNet customers or not. Or calls from other ISPs who are curious about the formula for our success, or who'd like to emulate a proven business model.
Their only drawback is they don't have an imp who cracks a whip with a smile and cares whether you're alive or not, or support who'll stay on the phone for hours solving a problem, then make a personal stop on their way home to help. They don't have those individuals that make themselves indispensable by learning all aspects of the business and can fill in anywhere. Or a Net Admin who'll sleep with the servers and work for days without sleep to make sure all is well. They won't have the knowledge of Broadband where ours has led the nation, or the unique talent we have and can rely on to work from their homes locally and from long distances at all hours to undergird the tradition of excellence, and who enjoy the process of creating things unique in presentation, precise in execution.
ShreveNet's love for excellence does not stop with the customer or its' employees, but extends into the community in all areas. Webspace and technical support are provided to entities that also provide public services. Schools, churches, the arts, music; all are given individual special attention to enhance the richness of the experience for the community. Technical and hands on support are given at local and statewide events for live internet video and audio coverage of special events. Individual attention is given our senior citizens, and families of our military overseas. The list goes on...
I may regret saying this down the road, but I've already said it... "I'd work here for free!"
For and to the SheveNet family,
Bobco
I am proud to exhibit the graphic art of my daughter Keely Dawn Jackson. Keely is now attending the Art Institute in Los Angeles, California, and is hoping to do an internship with Trailer Park who also works with 1741 Films. Some of the photography was done by myself, the poetry by Terri Dawn Jackson Freeman, who is working on her book Pride of Lions with Keely doing the graphics. (hint... I'm the Photographer and Poet in Terri's poem on herself 8) Keely also has done many CD album covers and personalized graphic gifts. Her display portfolio won awards at the Art Institute.
To fully appreciate the depth and detail of Keely's work I am providing links to the full size pictures. Be patient while they load as they are quite large... click here for the KDawn Gallery!!! (Removed at Keely's request for copyrighted protection... boy did you miss it! ;-)
She is my Mother, my foundation, building solid ground so that I might find my footing.
She is an unwavering pillar who never breaks, and yet she is able to bleed, but only when no one sees.
She has never been and open door, giving me shelter from my self-created storms. Rich fabrics and soft pillows to surround my need for security.
She led me along a careful path as if her steady walk would herd me back into her single flock each time I tried to stray.
She would not give up.
She is Joy, and with here there is an ever-present feeling that I am at home.
I am the voice of our fourth generation, of first born daughters, and I am an only child.
The voice I use speaks quietly and affectionately of my pride.
I gave birth to two of these women. The Sun and the Moon, and all the stars they have given me.
Like a chain reaction of emotions that collide and guide and enlighten me, through the darkness that lifts when I realize I am not alone.
am a poet, the drama queen, the memory, the dancer that often stumbles.
I have been a muse to more than one painter and a photographer and poet.
I am often bittersweet, and sad and always sentimental.
I speak of roots and wings, of commitment and freedom.
She is a lioness with a mane of red hair that I would brush for hours as a child. We were bed partners, even sharing matching red ruby slippers.
I have always called her Aunt Red because of her hair and her fire and the fact her name was complicated.
We have shared a special bond having our children at the same time, although she is 20 years my senior, and this year we will become Grandmothers. The sixth generation.
I have always know what it meant to have meant to have more than just an Aunt. She has been a confidante, a sister, and a friend.
It may sound like I'm bragging, but out of sheer pride I have to say the apple didn't fall far from the tree ;-) I love you Keely!! My #1Baby Girl
Always,
Dad
It may have been a brisk 30 something degrees but there were hundreds lined up to get in to Shreveports' 2003 Computer Sheaux 2003. I guess the old addage about the "early bird getting the worm" includes the best deals on the products and merchandise poised for sale at rock bottom prices inside the Bossier City Convention Center. And buy they did, carrying out their spoils by the industrial cartload. Everything from the ancient, hard to find spare parts, to state of the art motherboards, cpu's, monitors, hardrives, sound and video cards, memory, mice, cases, cables, and the list goes on and on.
The people that attended were as varied as the merchandise. Professionals, hobbyists, surfers, designers, and everything in between... All with that hint of "geek" about them, and all of them enjoying the interaction with others like themselves. There is a saying coined by my friend Chris Pirillo that goes; "GEEK used to be a four letter word, now it is a $ix figure one." By the amounts of hardware and software that were leaving the sheaux by the armload, I'd say that folks were preparing to make the most of their passions.
Shreve Net was well represented and giving away popcorn, candy, and a lot of technical assistance to those in need. Many were just curious about our services and capabilities, but you've got to be a ShreveNet customer to understand the real worth behind an already outstanding Internet provider, and that is the people that make up the staff and support for the company. I've personally never seen a more dedicated, caring, and invested group of individuals that meld together into a superlative team. The knowledge and professionalism and combined years of service of our staff is overwhelming, and I am proud to be counted among them. The effort and thought that is currently being invested in the future of the company will bring the best of technology together with a genuinely customer oriented support staff that is there to meet the needs of almost any area.
Make sure to visit ComputerSheaux.org and get the dates for the next event, and be sure to note the number of high profile sponsors that are present at each event. There was something there for everyone, expert and hobbyist alike, and associations that are sure to bear fruit for future gatherings. Plan ahead, and plan to have fun!
See you at The Sheaux!
Bobco...
After weeks of long hours, I've finally figured out some of the trappings of blogging and even managed to incorporate it into a traditional web site where the content is a little more flexible. When my friends in the #lockergnome (tech related) chat room suggested that I begin by learning HTML scripting from scratch instead of relying on programs to do the work for me they were doing me a BIG favor. What I learned in the process of putting this all together is invaluable, and in utilizing the code basics my learning curve was quite steep. The next steps will be easier because I was convinced to start at the beginning.
The site is really an extension of my old BBS (Bulletin Board System) and a dream to continue that passion in today's Internet. When I started out in 1985 I was entering into an area that was still essentially unexplored, AND uncharted. There weren't the resources, software & hardware, help, or even the basics of a net infrastructure outside of the high-tech college and research facilities. Today, the task is easier due to the advances in technology, and the Internet Community.
The thought was to have a GALLERY of pictures of my family, friends, and other subjects that interest me, as well as content focusing on iRC communication, some scripting, related software solutions to online communications, and essentially MORE content than just a BLOG could achieve.
There were days in the process where I thought I'd go nuts, so I REALLY want to thanks the folks at the LOCKERGNOME chatroom for their patience in answering all the questions fired at them in the last few days.
Thanks to _Mist_, flatrabbit, DataBrokers, Mike, osmaker, kurt, FrozenFood, David_Mitchell, and a host of folks too numerous to list!
